Some people see doors, windows, gates and fences as barriers but I try to rewrite that narrative by offering them as opportunities to wonder what lies beyond. “Good fences make good neighbours” says Robert Frost. A fence can keep the inside in or keep the outside from getting in and so forth. There are fences that are clear barriers but to me, this one was inviting each side to experience the other, so rather than a barrier in the garden it has become a part of the garden. I captured it on canvas because there was something comforting, homely and dreamlike….things I love to become absorbed in.
